Overview
Clinically reliable and accurate resource for congenital and acquired heart disease.
Managing a heart condition involves complex medical decisions, ongoing care, and emotional challenges, making trustworthy resources critical for informed decision-making and peace of mind. The Digital Lab partnered with clinicians at the BC Children's Heart Centre to develop a dedicated, evidence-based online resource to bridge this gap, providing clear, accessible guidance tailored to patients and caregivers.
Research & Design
Transforming Heart Education with a Blend of Text, Animation, and 3D Models
HeartHub is designed to educate patients and families on a variety of heart conditions and provide guidance throughout the treatment process. It helps patients access on-site care at BC Children's Hospital, prepare for upcoming appointments, and connects them to trusted resources and support groups to enhance care.
The platform features an expansive e-Learning centre, offering educational content on 25+ complex heart conditions through engaging text, animations, and, for some conditions, interactive anatomically accurate 3D models. These resources help users visualize their condition’s anatomy.
Cardiac care can be complex and intimidating, so the platform is designed to clearly explain tests, treatments, and care expectations, easing the stress for patients and families while demystifying the process.
Potential Impact
Reliable Information, Confident Decisions, Better Outcomes
HeartHub was publicly launched in early 2024. Since then it has supported the care team at the BC Children’s Hospital Heart Center by providing them with an evidence-based resource for educating patients, and connecting them with the support that they need. Through simplifying complex heart conditions, educating users and demystifying techniques used in care, HeartHub has empowered patients and their families to be active participants in their healthcare, and provided them necessary support throughout the treatment process.
HeartHub has the potential to streamline and enhance cardiac care in British Columbia by ensuring heart disease patients are educated, and informed about their care from a young age and continuously supported as they transition to adult care.
