Overview
Supporting Healthier BC Families
The Digital Lab partnered with the Generation Health Clinic - a team of doctors, dietitians, mental health professionals, and exercise specialists - to develop the Generation Health Learning Centre. The Learning Centre is designed to supplement the in-person Generation Health Clinic program, focused on improving the health and well-being of children and families. The program helps the families build the foundation for holistically improving their health and well-being through working with a diverse team of clinicians that support them in making healthy life choices.
Through active living, healthy relationships with food and technology, improved sleep patterns and a family supported approach, Generation Health Clinic aims to help its participants make lasting life changes.
Research & Design
Building the Foundation for Healthy Living
The Generation Health Learning Center caters to users of different ages including youth, teenagers, and parents interested in a variety of topics including physical health, nutrition, and mental health that all combine in their approach to improving health.
The learning material is designed to be applicable to day-to-day life, teaching users skills such as reading labels on food products. The content is delivered in short learning modules to make the courses manageable to complete. To ensure user engagement, the content is delivered through a different medium including text, videos, learning checks, interactive activities and downloadable resources.
Impact
Supporting the Active Involvement of Families in Making Healthy Living Changes
Generation Health Learning Centre was publicly launched in mid 2024; since then, over 200 users have been enrolled into the program. As a supplement to the content delivered in the in-person Generation Health Clinic sessions, the Learning Center allows learning for the whole family to continue. The most popular courses for users since launch include Applying Canada’s Food Guide in the Grocery Store, Body Image & Self Esteem, Demystifying Diets, and Dining Out & Family Meals. These courses suggest that users are most interested in learning more about practical healthy eating habits and developing healthier relationships with their own bodies.
The Learning Center additionally provides an extensive library of recipes which were accessed by many users suggesting users are interested in learning about healthy food options.
