Introducing "VR/MRI"
With Virtual Reality, even a visit to the hospital can be all fun and games. How we used virtual reality for MRI preparation and improved patient-centric healthcare.
Overview
The Digital Lab worked with the Child Life Specialists and the Medical Imaging team at BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) to run a study examining how virtual reality (VR) intervention can be used to better prepare children for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans and improve the experiences of patients and families. In this study, we created a VR MRI preparation experience, which was tested in clinical trials to compare its effectiveness at reducing anxiety and movement during MRI scans compared to traditional preparation methods.
